2008 Tentative Playoff Formatas of June 19
The regular season is winding down and we are about to enter the beginning of our quadruple-elimination tournament. The first four games have already been scheduled based on regular season play. We will inform all teams of their seeds and the location of play for these games. These were set up to address the issue of competitive balance in our league. After these first four games are played, we will reseed based on all games played so far, using the tie-breaker format developed last year. The highest seed in the highest (fewest losses) category or bracket that will always be home team. All teams should still have plenty of league-provided balls and should continue to use one per team per game. As soon as the first four games are complete, We will place each team into a category based on the amount of losses (during the playoffs) each team has. The top zero loss team will play the next best zero loss team. The top one loss team will play the next best zero loss team, etc.. Any time there is an odd number of teams in a category, the lowest seeded in the first category will play the highest seeded in the next. If there is an odd number of teams still alive in the tournament, the lowest seeded team gets the bye. Note: only one bye allowed per tournament. Note 2: Two teams will have byes used after first four games. After each round of games, we will place all teams in their new loss category and repeat the process, using the same seed. In order to finish this tournament in a timely fashion, expect to play several times a week, if you are still alive. If eliminated, expect to still have to ump. Be prepared to inform your team of games and tell them to expect to play. Please make use of the website as it will be our best source of information. All missed umping fees must be paid before play is to begin. Any missed assignments , during the playoffs, will be fined as they would normally. Please try and sent your most experienced umps for the playoffs, if possible. Please report all scores as quickly as possible so we will be able to turn around and inform you of your next game. There could be as many as 43 games to be played in about a month to complete this tournament. We are only capable of playing three games per day and nine days per week. The championship teams could play up to three times in a week towards the end, so be prepared. Also, remember that for each of these 43 games we need an ump, and it might very well be your team. This is a little new to us, but we are very optimistic that it will run smoothly and be very exciting. Any questions, please email the league just as you would e-mail the scores in. Good luck to all and have fun.
