OCCCSL Tie Breaking Procedures
-
All scheduled games should be completed, if at all possible.
-
Teams will be seeded based on their W-L-T percentages.
-
In the case of ties, the combined record of games between the
tied teams involved will be compiled (head to head). Ties will be broken, and
seeding assigned, based on the winning percentage of the combined records. The
higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played
against the team or group is unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the
same as 2-0; 2-0 is the same as 4-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better
than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-2; 0-2 is the same as 0-4).
-
If procedure (3) fails to break the tie, then each tied team's
record against the team occupying the highest position in the final
regular-season standings shall be compared, continuing down through the
standings until one team gains an advantage by a higher winning percentage.
(Note: If there is more than one tie in the standings, and when utilizing the
tie-breaking procedures, a team's record against the combined tied teams
(prior to their own tie-breaking procedures) is used, rather than performance
against the individual tied teams.
-
If the tie is broken by (3) or (4) regarding one or more of the
teams, but two or more teams remain tied, then procedures (3) and (4) will be
reapplied among those tied teams only.
-
If teams are still tied, the seeding will be determined by
strength of schedule (W-L-T percentage of team’s opponents, counting the wins
and losses of each team played, each time played).
-
If a playoff spot is not still in question, and only the
seeding remains in question, flip a coin.
-
If teams are still tied, and a playoff spot is still in
question, then a playoff game will be played at the first available time. If
more than two teams are still tied, then we will play a round robin of all the
tied teams. The round robin W-L records will be used and run differential of
the round robin games only will be used if the round robin records do not
break the tie.
